Dr. Maryam Shettima Ibrahim graced our event with her presence

Please a little about who she is

A Political and Social Activist, a qualified physiotherapist, and a passionate social entrepreneur.

Maryam Shettima Ibrahim, known as Maryam Shetty, stands out as a remarkable force driving positive change across multiple fields.

Maryam’s academic journey began in Kano, where she received her early education, then she proceeded to the prestigious University of East London, Stratford, in the United Kingdom, where she pursued her Masters Degree in sports physiotherapy.

Her expertise was in high demand, leading her to become a valued member of the medical team during the London Olympics. Among the elite athletes she worked with was the world record holder and sprinting legend, Usain Bolt, from Jamaica.

Not limiting her pursuits to healthcare, Maryam embarked on a journey of social change by obtaining a Kingian Non Violence practitioner certificate from Emory University in the United States, inspired by the principles of the renowned Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Further, she honed her knowledge in public policy by earning a certificate in Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century from the University of Virginia.

With a rich background in both clinical and international development sectors, Maryam’s work has left a lasting impact. She has contributed to the UKAid funded programme, PATHS 2, and provided her expertise at the State House Clinic in the Presidential Villa, as well as the Child Care and Wellness sector.

However, Maryam’s passion for philanthropy truly shines in her initiatives, particularly in the realm of education. She led the successful rehabilitation of schools in her native state of Kano through the remarkable #GivingBack initiative, making a significant difference in the lives of countless students.

The culmination of her dedication to her country came when she was chosen to represent Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly. As part of the committee of accountability and transparency, and Anti-corruption, she showcased her unwavering commitment to her nation.
