HEALTHY FOOD YOU NEED TO TAKE MORE SERIOUSLY

Posted on

It is very easy in this age and time not to eat healthy with the wide range of junk and fast food readily available at our fingertips. However, we must try our best not to let a healthy diet escape from us because eating healthily affects more than our physical health; it affects our mental health as well. A change in diet can guarantee good health and make us feel better than we usually do.

Here are some healthy foods you need to focus on:

Eggs and Meats

Unless you are a vegetarian, eggs and meats are very important to your diet. Eggs and meats are said to be among the most nutritious foods on the planet. Lean beef is said to be among the best sources of protein. Other types of meat that are very high in protein include chicken breast and lambs.

Vegetables

As children, many of us were forced to eat our veggies by the adults around us and as adults we need to understand the high nutritional value of vegetables that cannot be dispensed with. There are so many varieties to choose from and so many delicious dishes that can be made from vegetables such as broccoli, asparagus, bell peppers, cauliflower, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, cabbage, lettuce, mushrooms, radishes, eggplants, celery etc.

Seafood and Fish

Among the reasons why you should include fish and other types of seafood in your diet is because they are highly nutritious and very rich in Omega -3. Sea food and fish also lowers the risk of having illnesses such as depression, dementia and heart diseases.

Grains

Grains are important for our diet though some can be harmful especially when consumed in large quantities. But grains are highly nutritious and some of the best ones are oats, brown rice and quinoas. You can’t go wrong with these foods that have a high level of nutrients from fiber to magnesium and vitamin B1.

Fruits

Some people argue that Nigerians do not generally have a fruit consuming habit event though we have a list of local fruits that are always readily available whenever we need them and that is partly true. Not only are they sweet, they are also highly nutritious and do not take much time to prepare. Some fruits are high in vitamin C, antioxidants, potassium and fiber and will aid in digestion. Learn to incorporate fruits such as apples, strawberries, grapes, oranges, pineapples, melons, mangoes, bananas etc into your diet.

Legumes

Legumes are usually very high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Legumes usually need to be properly prepared before consumed and they include green beans, lentils and kidney beans.

Milk, Cheese and other dairy products

Dairy products are usually filled with nutrients. Learn to incorporate cheese, milk, yogurt or other dairy products into your diet unless you happen to be lactose intolerant as dairy products usually lower the risk of having type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Nuts

Nuts are very good sources of nutrients from vitamin E, to iron, to fiber, to magnesium and riboflavin.  Some nuts are also good sources of carbohydrates, protein, zinc and antioxidants. The good thing about some nuts is that they are usually always easy to eat.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are said to be good sources of vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and vitamin B-6. They also have high calcium, iron and complex carbohydrate content. You definitely cannot go wrong with this healthy and nutritious food.

There are so many dishes you can make out of these healthy foods for your enjoyment. Just because something is healthy does not mean it will taste bad. Remember, you are what you eat and your health comes first. Adopt a more healthy lifestyle and see how your life changes. You got this!
